Remember when we had to actually open every single machine to check the basics?
I mean, maybe it's just me, but I was cleaning out my old toolbox and found a stack of boot CDs. I used to start every single job with those, even for a simple no-post, because that was just the process. Now, with a decent USB diagnostic stick and remote tools, I can figure out if it's a software or hardware issue in like 5 minutes before I even touch a screwdriver. It saves so much time, especially on house calls where you can't haul a full bench. Has anyone else found a specific old-school step that modern tools just made totally pointless?

Actually, opening the box still tells you things a remote tool can't. You catch bad caps, loose cables, or dust bunnies a diagnostic stick would miss. Sometimes the old way is still the right way.
