Just realized my 8 year old magnesium float was the problem, not my finish technique
I was bull floating a 30 by 40 slab in Council Bluffs last Thursday and griped to the older finisher next to me about my wrists aching by lunch. He picked up my float, flipped it over, and pointed out the face had worn into a slight cup shape. I had been fighting that curve for probably 2 seasons and blaming my arms the whole time. Bought a new one for $45 the next morning and floated the whole next pour without thinking about it once. Has anyone else worn a float out of flat without noticing, and how often are you swapping yours?

Man, this hits home! I ran a worn float for way too long on a garage slab last summer and kept cussing my shoulders like they were the issue. One of the guys finally grabbed it, held a straight edge to the face, and showed me a gap you could slide a nickel under. Picked up a replacement that same week and it was night and day, floated flat without me white knuckling the handles. Now I check mine with a straight edge every few months, and I'm getting maybe 2 to 3 years out of one before it starts cupping on me.
