PSA: Wet edge in July heat almost cost me a whole driveway in Phoenix

I was finishing a 30-yard driveway outside Phoenix last summer, temp hit 115. I got too confident and let the wet edge creep out about 15 feet ahead of my finisher. By the time I got back with the bull float, that section had already crusted over and I had to tear out a 4x6 patch. Had to mix a bag of fast-set in a wheelbarrow and patch it before the homeowner saw. Does anyone here use evaporation retardant on big pours in dry heat?

Tbh, I've had good luck with Evaporite on big pours in dry heat. But that fast-set wheelbarrow patch trick is smart too. I'd say just keep a spray bottle of water nearby to mist the edge as you go.

Did you try fogging the surface with water first?

Nah, have you tried just wiping it down with a dry cloth first? I used to skip that step and the water would just bead up on the surface. Once I started dry wiping it first and then hitting it with a light mist, the finish came out way cleaner on my end.

I once fogged my whole face instead of the patio.
