That $40 broom handle trick I laughed at actually works

Old timer at the shop told me to tape a broom handle to my float for large slabs, I thought he was messing with me. Tried it on a 60x30 garage floor in Austin last Thursday and my back didn't scream at me once, anyone else use a long handle trick like that?

Man that broom handle trick is no joke. I remember laughing at some old timer showing me the same thing on a job in Phoenix a few years back, thought he was pulling my leg. Tried it on a 50x30 patio pour and it saved my lower back big time. You can really lean into it without bending over and it keeps the float flat across the whole slab. Actually started using a longer 6 foot handle on bigger pours and it works even better, lets you get more reach without walking in the wet stuff.

Yeah @noaht15, next you'll be telling me your shovel's got a pillow taped to the handle too.

@noaht15 what length broom handle you running now? I tried a 54 inch one from Home Depot but it felt a little short for a 60 footer. Wondering if stepping up to 6 feet like you did would make a difference on these bigger residential floors.
