Warning: Fast-setting concrete on my last patio job messed with the smooth finish

Honestly, I poured a patio for a friend this past Monday. They went with a quick-cure mix to speed up the process. Tbh, it set up so fast that my float started dragging almost right away. It took me back to using standard mix, where we had plenty of time to perfect the surface. We never felt pressed to hurry things along back in the day. Now, with these rapid sets, if you look away, you get ridges and uneven spots. Ngl, I had to go over it twice with a hand trowel, and it still didn't look right. It just seems like the new methods trade quality for speed, and I miss the old pace.

Ever think it's more about adjusting your technique? You just gotta get used to the pace and have the right tools ready to go.

Last week at the local esports meetup, I saw players with identical gear fail because their focus was shot from noise and stress. One guy had the best mouse and keyboard but kept messing up simple combos when the crowd got loud. Tools and pace matter, but if your head isn't in the game, technique goes out the window. You can practice all day, but learning to block out pressure is a whole other skill. Sometimes the right tool is just a quiet room or a pre-game routine.

Yeah but you can't just adjust technique on the fly when your nerves are fried... I used to play with earplugs at tournaments, the kind that just dull crowd noise but you still hear game audio. Sounds weird but it helped me keep that focus on my own screen and hands instead of getting pulled into the room.
