Appreciation post: I finally got my uncle to see the moon landing footage differently
For years, my uncle was a hardcore 'it was all faked' guy, and I'd just argue with him using the same old points. About 6 months ago, I started focusing on the tech of the time, like how the Apollo guidance computer worked. I showed him a video from a museum in Houston explaining the rope memory, and he actually paused. He said, 'Huh, I never thought about how they'd store the programs.' He's not fully convinced, but he's asking real questions now instead of just repeating lines. Anyone have a good resource on the specific camera tech they used on the lunar surface?

Rope memory is a weirdly solid argument.

The Apollo guidance computer used rope memory because it was radiation hardened. That's the part most people miss. Modern flash memory would get fried by cosmic rays on the way to the moon. The physical weave of wires and magnets was the only thing that could survive the trip. It's less about being low tech and more about being the right tool for a deadly environment.
