Arguing about UFOs cost me a friendship | Conspiracy Debates

I kept pushing government cover-up talk during a casual hangout, and my buddy cut ties. I realized too late that I was too stubborn about it. How do you handle when conspiracy chats get too heated?

Cutting off a friendship entirely over a UFO chat is wild to me. People debate politics and religion all the time without ending things. You must have really gone in hard on the deep state stuff for him to just walk away.

Wait, it actually COST you a friendship? That is SO extreme for a casual hangout. Pushing the government cover-up stuff is one thing, but cutting ties over it? You must have hit a REAL nerve. When chats get heated, I back off and switch topics fast.

Anna's right that cutting ties is pretty extreme for a casual chat. It makes me wonder if your friend didn't just hear a wild theory, but felt like his basic trust in reality was being called dumb. When you push cover-up stuff hard, it can sound like you're saying anyone who disagrees is a naive fool. Maybe he felt you were dismissing his whole way of seeing the world, not just debating some lights in the sky. That kind of heat isn't about facts anymore, it's personal.
