Digging into the JFK files on the archives site last night...

I was reading through the Warren Commission documents on the National Archives website around 2 AM and found a memo where a secret service agent specifically mentioned they were told to stay out of Dealey Plaza before the motorcade arrived. No one talks about that detail in the mainstream documentaries, it's just buried in the 26 volumes. Has anyone else stumbled across a weird detail like that in the original files?

Yeah about that "stay out" detail... it's actually a bit different than you said. The memo says they were told to "avoid the immediate area" not "stay out completely." The wording matters because they did have some agents there, just not in their usual spots. Still a weird thing to find buried in the files though...

Wait, did the agent say they were told to stay out completely, or just to not take their normal positions? That's a wild detail to find buried in there. I mean, it makes you wonder if the whole "be extra vigilant" security posture they claimed was actually a way to clear the area for something else. Idk, maybe it's just me but that feels like the kind of detail that gets overlooked because it doesn't fit the simple "lone gunman" story. The official narrative always talks about how tight security was, but finding evidence they deliberately removed agents from the route seems like a bigger deal than people make it.

Stay out of Dealey Plaza" - yeah I found that exact memo a few years back, its real. @the_diana you're spot on, they weren't just shifting positions, they were told to not be there at all. Best thing is to screenshot it and save a local copy, the Archives site can be glitchy with those old PDFs.
