Got called out for my 'flat earth' research methods and it stung

I was deep in a thread about the 1969 moon landing, citing a bunch of YouTube videos I'd seen. Another user, who actually works in aerospace, replied with a direct quote: 'Your sources are all circular references from the same three websites, dude.' I had to admit they were right. So now, before I post anything, I spend at least 15 minutes checking if a claim has been debunked on a legit fact-checking site. It's slower, but way less embarrassing. Anyone else had to totally change how they vet info for these kinds of talks?

Wait, you were using YouTube videos as your main source for moon landing stuff? That's like trying to fix a burst pipe with a roll of duct tape. Good on you for changing your method, though. Checking facts before you post is the only way to go now.

Yeah, that "circular references" line hits hard. I got burned once using a news article that just quoted a blog, which quoted a forum post, which linked back to the same news article. Now I try to trace claims all the way back to the original study or press release, if there is one. It's crazy how often info just loops back on itself.

How many layers deep before @coleman.gray's pipe bursts?
