Just realized that $40 laser thermometer saved me from burning my house down
I picked up a cheap laser thermometer off Amazon last month to check my oven temp. Last night I was preheating for pizza and decided to point it at the back wall just for fun. It read 475, but the front of the oven was only showing 350 on the dial. Turns out the thermostat sensor was totally shot, and the element was about to overheat. Has anyone else caught an appliance going bad with a simple tool like that?

Wow that's scary, did you check your smoke detectors after finding that?

That "for fun" check probably just confirmed your oven runs hot like most do.

Yeah that "for fun" check really stings when you realize your oven's been lying to you for years... I guess it's better to know than to keep burning everything though.
