That $80 'detox' foot bath was just rusty water and my own gullibility

I bought one of those ionic foot soak machines off a late night infomercial back in April, paid $80 plus shipping for the deluxe kit with the special salt packs. After three sessions the water turned brown and I felt amazing, so I told my neighbor Cindy about it and she laughed for a solid minute. She pointed out the metal electrodes were literally rusting in the water, same reaction as leaving a nail in a glass of salt water overnight. I tried it with plain tap water, no salts, no fancy settings, and it did the exact same brown sludge thing. So basically I paid $80 to watch oxidation happen and convinced myself it was pulling toxins out of my feet. Has anyone else fallen for one of these wellness gadgets, and what did you finally catch it on? I'm still mad about the money but more annoyed I bragged about it at book club.

That $80 price tag usually includes a warranty card that says the machine has no actual health claims, just a "relaxation device" in the fine print. The brown water is literally just iron reacting with the salt, and your body already flushes toxins through your liver and kidneys for free. Next time, save the money for a nice foot scrubber and tell Cindy she was right, it hurts but it's good for the ego.
