That time I caught my neighbor feeding squirrels under my bird feeder
I was sitting on my back porch last Tuesday around 6pm, drinking coffee, when I saw old Mr. Gunderson sneaking over with a plastic bag of peanuts. He'd been tossing them under my feeder for months and wondering why the birds stopped coming. Have you guys ever dealt with a neighbor messing with your setup without asking?

Tackle this head on by going over and talking to Mr. Gunderson nicely first. I had a similar issue with my neighbor who kept scattering bread crumbs near my feeder. I just explained that the bread attracts pigeons and rats and asked if he wanted to help me fill the feeder instead. He ended up buying his own feeder and we split the seed cost. Works way better than getting mad about it.

Offer to buy him a proper feeder as a gift, might soften him up.

Did Mr. Gunderson say why he was specifically feeding the squirrels instead of the birds? I gotta wonder if he's got some weird vendetta against your birds or if he just likes watching the squirrels scramble around. My old neighbor did the same thing and it turned out he was just lonely and wanted something to watch from his kitchen window. Maybe bringing him a lawn chair and a coffee invite would get him to switch sides. Feels like there's always a reason people do stuff like that beyond just being annoying.
