Vent: My neighbor tried to convince me the city was putting fluoride in our tap water to make us docile

This was last Tuesday, and he cornered me by the mailbox for a full 45 minutes with printouts from some blog. He kept saying 'they want us calm and compliant' while pointing at charts. I just wanted to check my mail. Has anyone else had a friend or family member go deep on a theory that just made you laugh?

What's the weirdest theory you've ever been cornered with? My uncle once spent a holiday dinner explaining how birds aren't real. It's funny until you realize they actually believe it.

Fluoride's just there to prevent cavities, man. My dentist would be out of business without it. Those charts your neighbor had probably came from the same sites that say 5G causes brain worms. Sometimes people just need a hobby that isn't scaring the mailman.

Ever try the "oh wow my phone is buzzing" fake out? Works great to escape a mailbox lecture, and @lily70 that bird dinner sounds brutal. Some folks just get stuck in a loop and you gotta have an exit plan ready.
