Appreciation post: the $180 magnetic mount flag kit actually held on I-35
I figured those magnetic oversize load flags were a gimmick when the guy at the yard in Waco pushed them on me. Ran a mini excavator up to Hillsboro in 30 mph crosswinds and the things never budged, while the old strap setup on the trailer behind me was flapping the whole way. Anyone else running these on a gooseneck, or am I just lucky with the wind direction?
Did you check them after the run though, or just watch them from the cab? I ran a set like that last spring and they felt solid as a rock until I pulled over in Abbott and one of them had slid back about two inches and was hanging half off the rail. The magnet held fine but the wind was creeping them back a little at a time, and I only caught it because I do a walk around every stop. Crosswinds at 30 can hide that stuff, the flag stays stiff so you think it's locked down when it's really just drifting. Might be worth marking the rail or checking them at every stop before you trust them on a longer haul.
