Hot take: nobody needs a 55 ton lowboy for a mini excavator
I was at the Cat rental yard in Baton Rouge on Tuesday and heard a dispatcher tell a guy he had to book a 55 ton lowboy for a 9,000 lb mini excavator, which is overkill by a mile and doubles the haul cost for no reason. A tandem dual gooseneck behind a 1 ton truck handles that machine all day and you keep the difference in your pocket. I get that bigger trailers feel safer, but 9 out of 10 guys I know running small iron are just burning money on capacity they never touch. Am I wrong here, or are the big lowboy guys just scared of a little trailer sway?

Overkill is the American way. Same guy probably owns a 4x4 dually to buy groceries.
