I finally got my ramps right after a 20 year hauler set me straight at a truck stop outside Bakersfield
So last Tuesday I'm grabbing breakfast at the Flying J off Highway 58 and this older guy with a beat up Ram sees my trailer hooked up with my mini ex on it. He walks over and asks why I'm running my ramps at such a steep angle, and I tell him that's just how they sit, it's never been an issue. He laughs and says "brother, you're loading uphill every time and you don't even know it." Turns out he's been hauling iron for 20 plus years and he showed me how to set the trailer height and use a small block to flatten the ramp angle so the tracks don't fight the cleats going up. I tried it the next morning loading my Takeuchi and it was night and day, backed on smooth with no slip and I didn't have to rev it halfway up like before. Felt like a dummy for doing it wrong for so long but also kinda proud I listened instead of getting my back up. Anybody else load a mini excavator and have a setup that makes the ramp angle easier? I'd love to hear what works for you.
