The flag guy at the quarry gate in Tulsa who saved me a $400 fine
Last month I was hauling my mini excavator out of a quarry near Tulsa and I was running behind, so I skipped strapping down the bucket the way I normally do. The flag guy at the gate, older fella named Ray, walked up to my trailer and just pointed at the bucket for a second without saying anything. He said he'd seen a guy lose a bucket on Highway 75 two summers back and it bounced into a minivan, and the fine plus the tow plus the damage came out to around $400 out of pocket. I told him I was only going a few miles, and he said that's what the guy said too. I sat there for ten minutes redoing my chains while trucks stacked up behind me, and honestly it was the best ten minutes I lost all week. That stop made me think about how many times I've cut corners because the drive was short, and it makes me wonder how many of you have a close call story like that.
