Hit 200 subcontractor check-ins last month and it broke my brain a little
I've been tracking how many times I actually visit subs on site to check their progress, and I hit 200 last month. That's like 8 or 9 site visits every work day. No wonder I feel like I'm running in circles. Half those visits were just me staring at a drywall crew waiting for them to finish a corner. I started using Procore to log it, but the real number caught me off guard. Has anyone else counted their daily site stops and realized they're wasting half their time watching people work?

I started rolling in with a 15 minute timer on my phone for each stop and it cut my wasted time by almost half. If you batch your visits by zone and call ahead to make sure they're actually ready for you, you stop standing around watching tape and mud dry. The subs will respect your time more when they see you aren't just lingering either.

Called ahead yesterday and saved myself 45 minutes of standing around.

I read somewhere that some supers keep a little logbook of when subs actually show versus when they say they'll be there, and they adjust their routes based on that data. It sounded kind of extra at first, but honestly after trying my own version of it for a couple weeks I can see the logic. You start noticing patterns like who's always running 20 minutes behind and who's ready to go the second you pull in. That kind of info really does help you plan better and stop wasting gas driving all over town.
