I dropped about $2,500 on a drone for site surveys. Some guys think it's a game changer, others say it's just a fancy toy. What's your take?

Honestly that's a ton of cash for something a good camera on a pole could do lol.

Hey, you're not wrong! My budget is basically "camera on a stick" money anyway.

I used a GoPro on a painter's pole for a whole year before upgrading. The footage was shaky but totally fine for social media clips. Just make sure you get a solid phone clamp or a cheap gimbal off Amazon for like forty bucks. That combo will save you a ton of money while you figure out what shots you actually need.
