Just realized my cost estimating software was overcomplicating everything
Been using ProEst for 3 years and thought it was the best thing since sliced bread, but after watching a guy at a job site in Austin build a quick bid on a spreadsheet in 20 minutes that was more accurate than my 2-hour software output, I started questioning if all these bells and whistles are really helping us. Anyone else find that simpler tools actually give better results on smaller projects?

I used to be the guy defending all the features in our estimating software, but then I sat next to a GC who did a whole takeoff on a legal pad in 15 minutes and nailed the number. Made me realize the fanciest tools just add steps for no reason on smaller jobs. Simple gets the job done faster and cleaner most of the time.
