Just realized our drone mapping missed the storm drain grades by a foot in Austin
We've been using photogrammetry on a 14 acre site near the Colorado River for about 3 weeks now. I trusted the point cloud over a manual survey check on a few storm drain inlets, and the as-built came back showing our elevations were off by almost 12 inches on two of them. Turns out the ground cover was too tall and reflective, so the software smoothed everything out. I learned I need to do a quick rod and level spot check on any critical utility ties before we pour. Has anyone else had drone data look perfect but fail on hidden low spots like that?

Did the tall grass also tell you the storm drains were fine, or was it just being extra "helpful" with your schedule? Sounds like the drones wanted to save you time by skipping the part where things actually matter.
