My electrician cousin called my plan grid 'a fancy notebook' and I haven't stopped thinking about it
Last Sunday at a family BBQ in Stockton, my cousin Dave, who has been running conduit for 22 years, watched me show off my tablet with the plan grid app on it. He said "that's just a fancy notebook, I can read a set of prints faster than you can scroll to the right page." I laughed it off, but then he pulled out his paper set with color coded sticky tabs and found the exact panel schedule in about 4 seconds. I timed myself on the tablet and it took me 11 seconds with loading and pinch zooming. Now I am not saying paper beats tech, but it made me think about how much of my workflow assumes the software is always faster when sometimes it's just newer. Dave also pointed out that his tabs never need a wifi signal or a charged battery, which honestly hurt a little. Has anyone else had a trades guy call out their tech stack and then been right about it?
