Paper plans vs drone mapping on a parking lot job in Phoenix
I ran a 40,000 square foot concrete pour for a retail center back in March. The GC insisted we stick with paper plans and a total station for layout. We fought dust, heat, and misread callouts for three days. Finally I pulled out my own drone and did a quick photogrammetry pass over the site. That gave us a topo map with 1 inch accuracy in about 40 minutes. We found two catch basins that were 6 inches off from the paper set. Re-staking everything off the drone model cut our layout time in half. The GC said the drone stuff was for the big boys, but he shut up when we hit the pour schedule two days early. Has anyone else had to prove older tech wrong on a specific job like this?
