Warning: That free project management app cost me 3 hours of rework last Tuesday

I had a client in Austin who insisted we use his free Trello board to track a commercial remodel. He set it up himself, but nobody flagged that the due dates were synced wrong across time zones. I showed up to pour concrete on Tuesday and the supplier had been pushed to Thursday. I spent 3 hours on the phone fixing the schedule and the concrete order. Anyone else have a client's DIY tech setup backfire like that?

Time zones got me too, actually. That client in Austin set his Trello board to Pacific time without telling anyone, so my concrete pour deadline showed up as a full day later than it really was. And @the_diana, I feel you on those cabinet delays - materials sitting on a dock because the order trigger was in the wrong column. The real trap is nobody checks the setup because it's "just a free tool" and the client thinks they saved money. Did either of you end up switching the client to a simple shared spreadsheet instead?

Free spreadsheet, same chaos, less clicks.

Oh man, that's brutal... I had a client once who used his own free Asana board for a kitchen renovation and he set up all the task dependencies wrong. I ended up waiting on a custom cabinet delivery for two extra weeks because he had the order date linked to the wrong step. It was a mess of phone calls and angry subcontractors. DIY project management tools can be a total trap when the person setting it up doesn't know what they're doing.
