A client in her 60s told me my 'perfect' blowout was too flat and made her feel old, so I started using a round brush to lift the roots more and now I ask every client about volume.
She said, 'Honey, I want to look refreshed, not deflated,' and that one comment from Mrs. Henderson last month completely changed how I approach styling for my mature clients.

Listen to that feedback, it's gold. A good stylist adjusts their technique for the person in the chair, not just the hair type. Mrs. Henderson gave you a lesson you can't learn in school.

Adjust your pressure and speed based on their body language. If someone flinches when you comb a certain section, lighten up and slow down there. Watch how they hold their head, it tells you where they carry tension. That's how you turn a basic cut into a custom service.

Reminds me of what xenaf51 said about my dog's groomer.
