A client taught me how to actually listen to hair texture
Had a woman in her 60s sit in my chair last month who politely told me I was handling her fine hair all wrong. She showed me how her regular stylist would use just fingertips and barely any tension, and I felt like an idiot for never asking before. Has anyone else had a client drop a technique tip that changed how you work?

Is it weird that I used to think clients should just trust our process, but now I realize they actually know their own hair best? That fine hair technique tip totally changed my approach too.

and honestly it goes even deeper than that - clients pick up on stuff in their own hair that we literally can't see or feel. like the way their hair reacts to humidity or how long their color actually lasts between washes. we're only seeing them for an hour but they live with it 24/7. that fine hair thing was a game changer for me too because i finally shut up and listened instead of assuming my "professional eye" knew better. its wild how much we miss when we're too busy being the expert instead of the student.
