A client's mom told me I was 'brushing wrong' and it threw me for a loop
Last Tuesday this older lady sat in my chair and watched me work on her daughter's hair, then politely said I was going against the natural growth pattern with my brush technique. She showed me how she brushes from the nape up on curly hair to avoid breakage, and honestly I've been doing it the same way for 8 years without questioning it. Has anyone else had a total stranger call out a habit you thought was fine?

Man, that's wild! But honestly, she probably saved you some headaches down the road. I had a similar thing happen to me when I was gardening - this old guy at the nursery showed me I was pruning my roses all wrong, cutting them at the wrong angle. It stung at first, but I had to laugh because he was totally right. Sometimes it takes a random stranger to point out what you've been missing for years, and it's better to just take the advice and move on, right?

Yeah but being accused is way different than getting gardening tips, not really the same thing at all.

Think you might be mixing up two different things there. Pruning at the wrong angle can hurt the plant's health, but that old guy at the nursery was just giving you free advice with nothing to lose. The woman Joseph dealt with was actively accusing him of something he didn't do, which is a whole different level of frustration. Still, your point about learning from strangers holds up either way.
