A nail tech client called me out on my own dry cuticles and I wasn't even mad
Last week I had a regular come in for a fill and she straight up asked me why my own hands looked beat up. I've been so busy with back to back clients I stopped doing my own upkeep. She said if I don't take care of myself it shows in my work. Made me think twice about skipping my own oil routine. I started carrying a little cuticle oil pen in my apron and do it between bookings. Way less cracking now. Anybody else have a client call them out on something personal like that?

Gotta disagree a little with @the_linda on this one. Tough love is fine but a client should not be grading your personal appearance like that. My barber has dry skin on his hands during winter and I would never call him out on it because I care about his haircuts not his lotion routine. Everybody gets busy and skips stuff, that's just being human.

Whoa, a client actually said that to your face? That takes some nerve but I guess she wasn't wrong. I had someone tell me my own chipped polish made me look unprofessional once felt like getting scolded by my mom in front of everyone. You handled it way better than I did I just muttered something about my kids and changed the subject.

Actually @carter.casey I'll push back a little because I think that client did you a favor whether you wanted it or not. A little tough love about our appearance keeps us sharp and stops us from getting sloppy when we're busy. I'd rather hear it from a client than have them silently decide not to come back because of it.
