Blew my mind that 60% of clients don't come back because of the reception area

Saw a stat from a 2023 industry survey that said 6 out of 10 new clients won't rebook if the waiting area is messy or uncomfortable. It wasn't about the haircut or color. Just the vibe of where they sit. Found it in a post on the Professional Beauty Association site last night. Now I'm looking at my own shop's chairs and magazines differently. Has anyone else actually changed their space based on something like this?

In my experience, people leave because of the service, not a dusty floor.

That's rough when good service isn't enough to keep people around.

And honestly I've seen the flip side of that too. My neighbor owns a diner and he spends hours making sure the food is good and the servers are friendly but he never fixes the broken bathroom door. People kept complaining about it online and eventually a bunch of regulars stopped coming. He was so focused on the food he forgot people notice the little stuff that makes them feel comfortable. It's like you can have the best product in the world but if the experience around it is off people will drift away. Sometimes it's not even about the service itself it's about feeling like the place actually cares about every detail.
