Bought a $120 heated styling brush, regret it after 3 weeks

I got tired of my wrists hurting from the round brush and blow dryer combo, so I spent $120 on a heated styling brush from a brand my coworker swore by. First week it was great, smooth waves in ten minutes. But by week three the bristles started pulling my hair, like actual snapping sounds. Also the heat settings run way hotter than the dial says. I checked the reviews again and a bunch of people said the same thing after a month of use. Now I'm back to my old routine with the round brush, but I'm out $120. Anyone else had a tool that seemed perfect at first then fell apart fast? What are you using instead that actually lasts?
