Felt like a total rookie when my color client's hair turned green in the middle of a busy Saturday
I was at the salon on a packed Saturday in Dallas when a client who wanted a simple ash blonde came out looking like swamp thing. I had rushed the lightening because we were double booked and I skipped a test strand. I grabbed a redken filler and spent 40 extra minutes toning it back, but she still left looking brassy as hell. My manager made me comp her service and now I refuse to take walk in color on Saturdays no matter what. How do you all handle the pressure when the front desk keeps adding clients to your book?
A filler won't do much for green hair tbh, that's more of a color correction job. Green usually means the lightener grabbed too much and the cuticle is shot, so you need to pre-pigment with red or copper first, THEN tone. Comping her service was the right call though, and honestly refusing Saturday walk in color sounds like the only way to survive a busy book.
The real issue nobody talks about is the salon schedule itself. You got double booked on purpose and no amount of skill saves you when two color clients land at the same time. @lee_reed is right about the pre-pigment but the green also couldve come from hard water or product buildup on her hair, which means a test strand wouldve caught it before you touched her head. What I started doing is telling the front desk I need 15 extra minutes between color apps, and if they cant give it, they book it with someone else. Management loves to say yes to every client until it blows up on you.
