I finally checked the expiration date on my monomer and it was 2 years old

I was cleaning out my station last week and noticed a bottle of monomer I'd been using for months. Out of curiosity I looked at the bottom and it expired back in 2021. I looked it up online and apparently old monomer can cause lifting, discoloration, and even skin reactions because the chemicals break down over time. Has anyone else been caught off guard by expired products sitting right in front of them?

Girl, I've been there... had a bottle of monomer I kept topping off for like a year before I realized it was older than my youngest nephew. My clients were probably wondering why their nails kept lifting and I was just blaming the humidity.

Topping it off doesn't reset the expiration date.

Dianaanderson is right though, the expiration date is set for a reason. I actually read somewhere that the chemicals in monomer can break down over time and that's why it stops curing right. That "topping it off" thing is a trap, I did the same thing with a big bottle I got during a sale and just kept adding fresh stuff to the old bottom layer. Ended up throwing it out when I finally smelled it and realized it was way off. Definitely learned my lesson the hard way, now I mark the date on every new bottle with a sharpie.
