I finally gave in and tried that 'cold wave' perm technique on a client in Milwaukee after my coworker swore by it for 6 months, and honestly, the results were shockingly good and the process was way less stressful than I thought it would be.

Ngl, I was fully expecting a frizzy mess because my old teacher called cold waves 'cheap and damaging', but seeing the defined, soft curls on my client's resistant hair type after the 45 minute process completely changed my mind, so has anyone else had a similar turnaround with a technique they were taught to avoid?

Seriously, my stylist magazine just featured cold waves.

Was your teacher also from the era of perms that smelled like rotten eggs? Mine drilled into us that cold waves were for hack jobs, and I believed it for years. I avoided them like the plague until a client begged me to try one on her hair. I was so sure I'd ruin it that I almost called in sick the next day to avoid seeing her. Turns out, her curls looked amazing and she was thrilled, which just made me feel like a stubborn old mule for listening to outdated advice.

My mom still has that perm smell burned into my memory, lol. She'd come home from the salon and the whole house would stink for days.
