My brand new flat iron exploded in the middle of a client's appointment

I was doing a blowout for a regular client last Thursday, and my flat iron just popped and sparked right in my hand. Scared us both half to death. I had to finish her hair with a curling iron and a prayer. Has anyone else had a tool just give up on them mid-work?

Oh man that's rough, my friend's blowdryer literally caught fire once.

Are we really acting like a blowdryer catching fire is that big a deal? They're full of heating elements and hair, so a little flame isn't exactly surprising. Just unplug it and get a new one, not end of the world stuff.
