PSA: most salon chairs aren't built for real long hours

I was reading a trade article last week and found out the average salon chair is only tested for about 4 hours of daily use. That blew my mind because I'm on my feet and sitting in that thing for 8 to 10 hours easy. The foam starts breaking down way faster than I thought. It made me realize why my lower back has been killing me after 3 years in the industry. Have you guys ever checked the weight rating or daily use specs on your chairs before buying them?

Hmm, I don't know if it's that serious... most chairs I've used lasted years before the foam flattened out. Maybe your back pain is more about how you're sitting than the chair itself.

Read a study a while back that said most office chairs are actually designed for people around 5'10", so if you're shorter or taller, the lumbar support can hit your back all wrong. @jamie770 you might be right about sitting being a factor, but I think the chair itself matters a ton too. Had a cheap one from a big box store that started sagging on one side after like 8 months, and my lower back was wrecked until I switched. Something about the foam density and the frame underneath makes a huge difference long term.

Yeah but 5'10" is the average height so it kinda makes sense they'd design for that.
