Spent 45 minutes fighting a bad bleach job on a client yesterday

I had this client come in with box dye from 6 months ago and I thought I had the formula dialed in. Nope, took three rounds of foils and a bowl cut to fix the banding. Has anyone else had a box dye just refuse to lift evenly?

Oh, box dye is the absolute worst for that. I read something recently from a cosmetic chemist who explained it's because those home dyes have metallic salts in them that bind to the hair shaft differently than professional formulas. Once those are in there, the color just won't lift evenly no matter what you do. You were smart to go with the bowl cut to save what you could, some stylists would have kept fighting and ended up with a worse mess.

@the_xena needs to bottle that metallic salts warning as a perfume, "Eau de Regret.

Three rounds of foils and a bowl cut sounds like you practically had to rebuild that head from scratch. Box dye is like concrete once it sets, stubborn and full of regrets. At least your client walked out with a fix, mine usually leave wanting a refund and my firstborn.
