Stop using cheap purple shampoo on grey hair
I was having a horrible time with my elderly clients' grey hair looking yellow and brassy no matter what I did. After about 6 months of trying different purple shampoos from the beauty supply store, nothing was cutting it. Then a stylist in my salon told me to try a blue-toned toner instead of just relying on shampoo. I did a 10-minute toner treatment on 4 clients last week and their grey hair came out silver and bright, not yellow at all. Has anyone else switched from purple shampoo to a toner for grey coverage?

My sister manages a salon in Austin and she switched entirely to a blue based toner after dealing with the same exact problem. The thing is, purple shampoo can only do so much because it's temporary and gets washed out so fast. A toner actually deposits color deeper into the hair shaft, so it lasts through multiple washes. Plus you can customize the strength based on how yellow the hair is, which you just cant do with a shampoo. She started using a 5 minute toner treatment once a week for her grey clients and their hair stays that cool silver look way longer. The extra step is totally worth it when you see the difference side by side.

Start using a color depositing conditioner instead. My clients look way better with a lilac toner in their regular routine than anything from the drugstore.

Totally feel you on this one. Purple shampoo frustrated me for years too, it just never seemed to do enough for my clients. That toner switch sounds like a game changer honestly, I might have to try that myself.
