That master stylist who told me to stop layering fine hair straight across

I had this older stylist at my salon in Dallas tell me to never use blunt layers on fine hair because it just makes it look thinner at the ends. I ignored her for 6 months and kept getting complaints about stringy looks from clients. Has anyone else had a mentor give you a rule that you kicked yourself for not listening to sooner?

Wait, you actually had people complaining about stringy ends? That's wild, I always thought blunt layers on fine hair was like a cardinal sin.

My cousin got that same thing done in 2019 and she looked like a startled porcupine for two weeks straight. I ended up trying blunt layers myself last year and my hair just flopped over like a sad wet noodle. At this point I'm convinced my fine hair has a personal vendetta against any style that requires volume. Maybe I should just embrace the hedgehog look and save myself the salon money.
