The 6-month toner fade that made me switch products for good

I had a client in Cincinnati who got a caramel balayage back in March, and by September it was straight up orange. Same toner, same routine she always used, but the difference was wild compared to how it held for her first 3 appointments. Turns out she started using a clarifying shampoo twice a week to deal with hard water buildup, and that stuff stripped the toner way faster than anything I'd seen in 8 years behind the chair. Has anyone else seen a sudden before-and-after shift like this just because a client changed their home wash routine?

That clarifying shampoo thing is like a cheat code for stripping anything out. Reminds me of how people switch to a new laundry detergent and suddenly their towels feel rough, they never connect the dots to the soap change. Small routine swaps can sneak up on you like that.

Is it really that deep? Toner fades anyway, right?
