Tried a new brand of developer I was sure would be junk

I had a client come in last month with a box of that budget developer from the beauty supply down on Market Street. She wanted me to use it for her touch up. I thought for sure it would lift uneven or cause brassiness. But I ran a test strand first and it actually processed pretty clean. The gray coverage was solid and the ends didn't grab too dark. Has anyone else had a surprise hit with a no-name developer?

Surprised me too, cheap stuff worked fine for root touch ups.

Cheap stuff worked fine for root touch ups" - right? That's exactly what I found too. I was so nervous the first time I tried a cheap box dye from the drugstore, figured I'd ruin everything and have to go to a salon to fix it. But honestly I've been using that same $7 stuff for months now and my roots look just as good as when I was paying $80 at the salon. Plus you don't have to book an appointment a month in advance or sit there for two hours. Sometimes you just get lucky with the cheap options and it feels like a win.
