Tried that viral 'cold perm' technique from a stylist in Miami
I mean, I followed the steps exactly from that video, used the same L'Oréal Pro Series rods, and left it on for the full 25 minutes. The client's hair came out with this weird, frizzy wave at the roots but the ends were bone straight, it was a total mess. I had to do a corrective color gloss just to calm it down enough to style. Has anyone else tried this method and gotten a weird result, or did I just pick the wrong hair type for it?

Ugh, the "weird, frizzy wave at the roots" thing is a dead giveaway. That happens when the perm solution processes faster on the warmer scalp area. Next time, try applying the solution to the mid-lengths and ends first, then go back to the roots with whatever's left in your bowl about five minutes later. It gives the ends a head start so everything processes evenly. I learned that the hard way after a similar disaster!

Yeah that technique can be super finicky with different hair textures. I had a similar mess and found using a much lighter developer on the roots fixed the weird wave pattern. Sometimes those viral methods need a lot of tweaking to work right.

Honestly, leodavis is right about the tweaking, but man, those viral trends are a gamble. Reminds me of the time my cousin tried a baking soda bleach method from a meme and ended up with orange straw.
