Pro tip: one big tarp beats five fitted sheets for a fort floor
Everyone here swears by fitted sheets for the base layer and I think that is backwards. Last weekend I built a two room fort in my living room with a $9 blue tarp from Harbor Freight under everything and it stayed tight for 3 days. Fitted sheets bunch up the second anybody crawls in, and by night two you are fighting wrinkles and cold spots on the floor. The tarp gives you one flat surface, no gaps, and you can toss a quilt on top for softness. I used 6 binder clips on the tarp corners and it held through two kids and a dog. Has anyone else tried a tarp base, or am I the only one who got tired of re tucking sheets every night?
Man, the tarp thing is smart. I did the same with a cheap painter's drop cloth from the hardware store and it worked way better than sheets, since one piece means no seams for toys to catch on. Got a whole weekend out of it without a single re-tuck.
