Can we talk about the $14 kitchen scale that fixed my coffee more than any new gear?
Honestly I used to just eyeball my coffee grounds with a scoop and call it close enough. Then last month I grabbed a cheap $14 digital scale from a kitchen shop in Portland just to weigh flour, and on a whim I started weighing my beans too. Turns out I was swinging between 14 and 22 grams every morning, which explains why some cups tasted great and others tasted like hot dirt. Same beans, same water, same grinder, but the cup got way more even once I pinned down 18 grams every time. It kind of bugs me that the fix was a boring kitchen tool and not some fancy upgrade. Anyone else find that measuring by weight made a bigger difference than switching beans or gear?
