Finally hit 100 pour overs without a single bad cup

I started counting my pour overs back in March just out of curiosity. Yesterday I pulled off number 100 and it tasted better than ever. The trick for me was dialing in my grind size by 2 clicks finer than the bag suggested. Has anyone else tracked a coffee milestone like this or am I just weird about my morning routine?

Thought I was the weird one for not caring about precision but reading this changed my mind. I used to just dump grounds in and hope for the best, honestly thought people who measured clicks were being extra. But your post makes a lot of sense, especially the part about going finer than what the bag says. I tried it this morning and finally got a cup that didn't taste watery or sour. Two clicks finer really does make a difference, never would have guessed that. Now I'm kinda curious how many bad cups Ive had over the years if I had just done this simple fix. Thanks for sharing, might actually start tracking my own pours now.

Oh man, welcome to the club of people who spent years drinking sad coffee for no reason. Once you start dialing in, it's kind of a rabbit hole. The thing about going finer than the bag says is real because those recommendations are usually for some middle of the road setup, not whatever grinder or water temperature you're working with. I fell into that trap too, thought I was doing everything right but the bag was just a starting point. Now I keep a little notebook by my coffee stuff and jot down what click setting I used and if it was good or not. It sounds super dorky but it saves me from guessing every morning. Honestly, once you figure out your own little system, you'll never look back at those watery days the same way.

Used to roll my eyes at people measuring clicks and keeping logs, thought it was overkill for a morning cup. Then I tried actually paying attention to grind size and water temp and suddenly my coffee stopped tasting like dirty water. Now I'm the one with a sticky note on my grinder.
