Switched from pre-ground to whole beans last month, what a difference
For years I just grabbed whatever pre-ground coffee was on sale at the grocery store. Figured it was all the same once you added cream and sugar anyway. Then my buddy from work brought over some beans he roasted himself and made me a pour-over. I could taste actual flavors, like fruit and chocolate, not just burnt dirt. That was about 5 weeks ago. Now I buy whole beans from a local roaster in Nashville, grind them right before brewing, and use a simple scale to measure. It adds maybe 5 minutes to my morning routine but the coffee tastes way better. Anyone else make the switch and find a brand they swear by?

Same here, I was the guy saying "coffee is coffee" for years. But once I tried good beans from a local roaster I couldn't go back. @bell.felix nailed it about the 15 minute thing - I actually ground some beans last week and left them on the counter while I took a call. An hour later that batch tasted flat and sort of stale compared to the fresh grind I made the next morning. Now I'm that annoying person who sniffs the bag before buying and won't touch anything that's been sitting on a shelf for more than a few weeks. Still add cream but the flavor difference is night and day.

Read somewhere that fresh grounds lose flavor in like 15 minutes, makes sense now.
