Appreciation post: That IKEA pegboard I saw at a friend's place changed my whole desk vibe

I went over to my buddy Mike's apartment over in Arlington last weekend and he had this SKÅDIS pegboard setup above his desk. I always thought those things looked kinda gimmicky, but seeing it in person with all his little containers and clips holding cables made me realize how much clutter my own desk had. I went and got one the next day, spent maybe $45 total with the accessories. Has anyone else found that just hanging stuff on the wall instead of leaving it on the desk made a bigger difference than they expected?

Wait, hold up. You said spent maybe $45 total? Ngl that's wild to me because I must have walked out of IKEA spending close to $100 on mine. You must have only got the board and like two hooks or something. Honestly I went in for the basic setup and ended up grabbing like six different container sizes and the cable management clips. Tbh the cable stuff alone was like $12 for a pack of five little plastic things. And yeah it totally changed my desk situation too. Seeing your pens and tools on the wall instead of scattered everywhere just makes your brain feel less chaotic somehow.

Wait, did anyone think about the actual weight those pegboards can hold though? I see people loading up with heavy power tools or tubs of paint on those thin metal boards, and I just cringe thinking about the drywall anchors giving out at 2am.

Used to roll my eyes at pegboard setups, but after seeing a buddy's workshop where everything stayed up for years I had to change my tune. @the_sam's point about load limits is solid, because even decent anchors will fail if you pile on too much weight without checking the specs. Makes you wonder why more people don't just grab some basic brackets and go the plywood route instead.
