I regret spending $180 on that fancy standing desk mat, a $12 anti-fatigue one from the hardware store did way more for my back
Three months at my home office in Sacramento and my knees were killing me from that thick gel mat, so I swapped to a cheap foam one meant for garage workbenches and my legs stopped aching within a couple days, has anyone else found the cheap option actually works better for long standing stretches?
The gel mat might not be the real problem. Those thick squishy mats feel nice for five minutes but your feet sink in and your ankles and knees end up working harder to stay steady. A cheap foam mat meant for a workbench is firmer, so your legs stay in a more natural position. Also the price on the fancy one has nothing to do with whether it fits your body. A $12 mat that lets your feet stay flat beats a $180 one that makes you wobble.
