Just noticed more people are using those clamp-on monitor arms instead of the big bulky stands that come with the screens

My neighbor in the apartment building said she switched because she wanted more desk space for her plants and now I'm looking at my own setup wondering why I never thought to lift the monitor up after 3 years of shoving everything around it, do you find the arms are stable enough for heavy monitors?

Yeah I read somewhere that a lot of those clamp arms are rated for like 20 pounds or more so they should hold most monitors just fine. I'd check the weight of your screen first before buying one though because some of the cheaper arms can sag over time. More desk space for plants sounds like a solid reason honestly.

You ever had a buddy try to save a few bucks on a monitor arm? Mine did last year. He bought this cheap one off Amazon that looked fine in the pictures but the clamp was basically plastic. Three weeks later I go over and his monitor is tilted sideways like it's trying to make a point. Had to prop it up with a stack of books until he got a proper one. So yeah, paying a little more up front is worth it if you don't want your screen taking a dive.
