My wife said a bigger desk would just collect more clutter, and after upgrading to a 72-inch slab I’ve got 3 empty pizza boxes and a pile of mail taking up half of it.

She was right lol, now I’m debating if I should downsize or just get better at tossing stuff, has anyone else fought the urge to go massive and regret it?

My 72 inch desk looked amazing for about a week, then I had a small mountain of old receipts, a dead plant, and three coffee mugs with mysterious stuff growing in them. The real question is, did you think the extra space would magically organize itself, or did you have some storage plan in mind? I ask because I bought a bunch of those little desktop organizers and they just became clutter shelves too. Maybe the trick isn't the size of the desk, but having a hard rule about what actually gets to stay on it. Like, do you have a place for those pizza boxes to go, or are they just sitting there because there's nowhere else?

OH man, you nailed it. I fell for the SAME trap with my 60 inch desk. I swear those little organizers are just clutter magnets in disguise. What finally worked for me was a REALLY simple rule: nothing stays on the desk unless I used it in the last 24 hours. Everything else has to have a designated spot in a drawer or a shelf. So now I keep a small bin on the floor for stuff like old receipts and mail, and I empty it every few days. It's the ONLY way I've managed to keep the surface clear, no matter how big the desk is.
