Got back from a trip to Asheville and now I'm obsessed with their grits trick
I spent last weekend in Asheville and this little diner served grits with a spoonful of cream cheese stirred in. I never would have thought to try that, but it made them so creamy without adding extra butter. I came home and tried it with my usual quick-cook grits, and it worked great. Now I'm wondering what other creamy ingredients people swap in for dairy or heavy cream. Has anyone else tried cream cheese in grits or something similar in mashed potatoes?

The cream cheese in grits trick sounds GOOD, but now I'm side-eyeing my entire breakfast routine. I've been out here eating my grits like a CAVEMAN, just butter and salt, when I could have been living the high life with cream cheese. That's honestly offensive. But mashed potatoes? Come on, that's the one place where I draw the line. Sour cream is already the QUEEN there and cream cheese is just gonna start drama. Next thing you know people will be putting ranch dressing in their oatmeal and calling it art.
